Folks, when a book is bought used, the author gets no royalties. Unlike authors whose works are published by a traditional publishing company, independently published authors fund our own publication. We do not, thus, receive advance money from the book's publisher. All monies are made from royalties made from book sales. When you purchase a book used, the author does not make any money from the sale. This is much tougher on a self-published author than one whose money mostly comes via advances from their publisher. Think of it as the traditionally published author getting a steady salary and the self-published author working for tips.
