WHY THE BUTTERFLY?

Some may wonder why a person who wrote such a dark piece of fiction, who lives with sometimes crippling depression, who enjoys dark poetry and music, and who talks to dead people would choose "happy" symbols like butterflies and flowers to adorn their pages.
Darkness is not hopelessness and all things have an opposite. For me butterflies represent emergence. The soul emerging from the chrysalis of the body, the spirit emerging from the dark night of the soul. Flowers represent both beauty and impermanence. There is plenty of darkness and sorrow to be found and one day we shall all be free of the agonies of spirit and body.
